Texas and the Big 12 Invitational
The Big 12 Invitational serves as the league's unofficial championship for Texas, Kansas and Kansas State, the only schools to sponsor rowing in the conference ... UT has won all four previous league titles (2001, 2002, 2003 and 2005) ... the 2004 regatta was cancelled due to weather.

Texas at the 2005 Big 12 Invitational
Texas captured the first race of the day and never looked back as it swept all four scored races en route to its fourth straight Big 12 Invitational title on Town Lake in Austin, Texas ... the host Longhorns won the Big 12 trophy with 53 total points, followed by Kansas in second with 45 and Kansas State third with 40 ... Texas' first varsity eight boat surged ahead of Kansas at the halfway point of the 2000-meter race, beating the Jayhawks by just over five seconds in the most competitive race of the day ... the Longhorns' boat finished in a time of 6:26.3, with KU taking second in 6:31.5 and KSU third in 6:44.8 ... UT boats also captured the top performance in the second varsity eight (6:37.2), first novice eight (6:50.7) and first varsity four (7:25.0) competitions ... overall, Texas, Kansas and Kansas State finished 1-2-3 in three of the four scored competitions ... Kansas State placed second in first novice eight racing with a time of 7:02.9, twelve seconds off first-place finisher UT.

Last Time on the Water
The Texas rowing team was led by its novice eight boat and its second varsity boat on April 15, when the Longhorns competed in a New England regatta against No. 10 ranked Brown University, the University of Massachusetts and host Boston University ... the 2,000-meter event took place on the historic Charles River in balmy 70-degree conditions ... the best result of the day was turned in by the Longhorns' novice eight boat, which was just edged out by Brown, 7:15.6 to 7:17.1 in the closest race of the day ... additionally, head coach Carie Graves' squad had an impressive showing from its second varsity eight boat, which held onto a second-place finish in its race ... Brown won in strong fashion (7:05.5), while the Longhorns pushed down the stretch and edged out the BU boat by 0.7 seconds (7:24.2 to 7:24.9) ... the other two Texas shells - the varsity eight and the varsity four - both placed fourth in their respective races. Brown took first in both of those races, winning the varsity eight race in 6:56.4 ... BU was second (7:08.7) followed by Massachusetts (7:12.0) and Texas (7:16.5) ... in the varsity four, the Brown "B" quartet finished first (7:57.55), while Texas' fourth-place time was 8:27.20.
