Rowing earns 18 Academic All-Big 12 At-Large Team honors

AUSTIN, Texas – The No. 17 Texas Rowing team has placed 18 student-athletes on the  inaugural Academic All-Big 12 At-Large Team, the Conference announced on Tuesday.

The squad recognizes the academic accomplishments of 161 student-athletes at Conference institutions that participate in sports outside of Big 12 competition. The sports included are bowling, competitive cheer, men’s gymnastics, equestrian, rifle, rowing and men’s and women’s skiing.

The Longhorns on the first team are Kassandra Budzik, Chelsea Burns, Lyndsey DuBose, junior Natasia Giles, Jacqueline Gorcyca, Felicia Izaguirre-Werner, Megan Kelly, Tajana Lovric, Taylor Parker, Sarah Pedersen, Katie Sayre, Katarina Susac, Anna Thomson and Tea Vrtlar.


 

 

Texas landed Emma Dirks, Laurel McCaig, Hannah Moon and Sally Tunell on the second team.

Nominated by each institution’s director of student-athlete support services, the academic at-large squad consisted of 128 first team members combined with 33 on the second team.  First team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA, and the second team are those who have a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA.

To qualify student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 60 percent of their team’s scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.

Texas returns to the water on Saturday, April 16 when it takes on UCLA, Michigan State and Clemson in Lake Monticello, Va.
