AUSTIN, Texas -- The University of Texas rowing team will travel to Redwood City, Calif., this weekend to compete in the third-annual Windermere Collegiate Crew Classic, an invitational rowing regatta held at Redwood Shores. The two-day regatta takes place on Saturday, April 9, from 9 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., and Sunday, April 10, from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. The regatta features crew races between 17 of the nation's top universities as well as nearly 400 Bay Area community and high school rowers. Of note, this year will mark Texas' first year competing at the regatta.
The Windermere Collegiate Crew Classic has become one of the most anticipated rowing events on the West Coast. Stanford University, in partnership with Windermere Real Estate, will be the host. In addition to Stanford and Texas, visiting teams include the University of California, Clemson, Dartmouth, Georgetown, UC Davis, UCLA, University of Washington, University of Virginia, University of Wisconsin and Yale. Athletes will compete in two days of Henley style racing, a one-on-one or a two-boat race used for competition at the famous Henley Royal Regatta in Henley-on-Thames, England.
"We'll be racing Washington, who was not at last week's San Diego Crew Classic, and Stanford and UCLA, both of which we did race against in San Diego," Texas head coach Carie Graves said. "Texas rowed very hard last week and we are making some lineup changes. So, we're a work in progress and trying to find out what makes the best combination. It's going to be a very exciting regatta."
