Rowing posts two wins on day one at Head of the Hooch

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. -- The Texas Rowing team recorded victories in the championship eight and championship four on its first day of the 30th annual Head of the Hooch regatta.

The Longhorns first varsity eight comprised of coxswain Emma Dirks, stroke Jennifer VanderMaarel, Laurel McCaig, Jelena Zunic, Jessica Glennie, Jacqueline Gorcyca, Sydney Boyes, Charity McDonald and Felicia Izaguirre-Werner won its race, posting a time of 16:01.1.

Texas' varsity four boat of Dirks, VanderMaarel, Izaguirre-Werner, Gorcyca and Boyes won the championship four, crossing the finish in 17:33.0.

The second varsity eight of coxswain Meg Kelly, stroke Katarina Susac, Anna Thomson, Shelly Beck, Karli Sheahan, Taylor Parker, Chelsea Burns, Hannah Moon, Courtney Nicklas placed ninth in the championship eight, clocking a time of 16:29.5.

 

 

Texas' third varsity crew of coxswain Emily Lantz, Lauren Lehman, Devon Clark, Lyndsey DuBose, Margaret Harlow, Sally Tunnell, Tea Vrtlar, Natasia Giles, Julia Stevens finished 11th in the championship eight with a time of 16:43.8.

The Horns' varsity four crew of Kelly, Susac, Sheahan, Parker and Burns placed ninth and registered a time of 18:04.6. The varsity four boat of Lantz, McDonald, McCaig, Zunic and Thomson finished 12th, posting a time of 18:09.5.

Texas' first novice eight finished second in the college and club novice race, crossing the finish in 18:02.3, while the second eight finished third and posted a time of 18:04.4. The Horns' third novice boat placed ninth and notched a time of 18:32.0.

The Longhorns pairs and open eight crews return to the water on Sunday, Nov. 7 for the second day of the Head of the Hooch.
