Rowing pairs shine on day two of the Head of the Hooch

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. -- The Texas Rowing team received a second-place finish by Nancy Arrington and Jennifer VanderMaarel in the women's open two to highlight its efforts on the second day of the Head of the Hooch.

Arrington and VanderMaarel posted a time of 19:37.6 to claim second, while Jacqueline Gorcyca and Felicia Izaguirre-Werner teamed to finish seventh (20:16.0). The Longhorns' pair of Sara Cottingham and Anna Thomson placed eighth, clocking a time of 20:16.2 The tandem of Meg George and Callie Mattrisch finished 10th and crossed the finish in 20:25.8.

Colleen Irby and Angela Kirchner teamed to finish 12th (20:45.4) and Sally Tunell paired with Emily Cook to capture 13th place (21:01.4). The pair of Karli Sheahan and Laura Perkins added a 17th-place finish, clocking a time of 21:36.8.

Sophomore Jelena Zunic was the Horns' lone entry in the women's 1x and she finished fourth, registering a time of 22:03.8.

Texas entered three novice boats in the women's open eight and claimed fourth, sixth and seventh place. The Horns' first entry finished in 18:24.8, while the second boat clocked a time of 19:07.3 and the third boat finished in 19:20.9


 

 

The Head of the Hooch is a 5,000-meter (three mile) head race on the Tennessee River ending at Ross's Landing Park in Chattanooga, Tennessee.

Texas concluded its fall season at the Head of the Hooch. The Longhorns will return to the water on Feb. 14, 2009 when they compete in the Fighting Nutria on Lady Bird Lake.
