Gorcyca and Izaguirre-Werner pace Rowing on day two of the Head of the Oklahoma

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. – Freshmen Jacqueline Gorcyca and Felicia Izaguirre-Werner won the women’s open two to highlight the Texas Rowing team on the second day of the Head of the Oklahoma. The Longhorns added a fourth and a fifth-place finish in the women’s collegiate four, while sophomore Jelena Zunic placed sixth in the women’s collegiate single. Gorcyca and Izaguirre-Werner posted a time of 17:01.973 to earn the first victory of their collegiate careers. The freshmen pair of Courtney Nicklas and Karli Sheahan finished fourth (17: 40.537), while juniors Colleen Irby and Angela Kirchner placed seventh, crossing the finish in 18:07.947. Senior Elizabeth Meserve and sophomore Tara Saad finished ninth (18:57.331) and the tandem of junior Sara Cottingham and freshman Anna Thomson placed 10th and posted a time of 19:36.353. In the women’s collegiate four, Texas’ A boat placed fourth and registered a time of 16:28.097, while the B boat notched a fifth-place finish, clocking a time of 16:56.941. Zunic earned a sixth-place finish in the women’s collegiate single, finishing in 18:47.945. Oklahoma City University's Head of the Oklahoma features a challenging 2.5 mile head race course. Beginning near the west edge of the basin, the head race course traverses through several bridges and turns before straightening midway through the course at Regatta Park for a straight 2,000 meter path to the finish line.
Texas returns to the water on Saturday, Oct. 25 at the Head of the Colorado on Lady Bird Lake.
