Rowing posts two top-five finishes at Head of the Oklahoma

OKLAHOMA CITY – Texas Rowing logged a pair of top-five finishes Saturday as the Longhorns kicked off the fall season at the annual Head of the Oklahoma.

The Longhorns’ first varsity eight boat featuring coxswain Rachel Donnelly along with Katarina Susac, Laurel McCaig, Devon Clark, Casey Redman, Olivia Nail, Victoria Bujala, Johanna Neuber and Chelsea Burns took fourth in the collegiate 8+ in 15 minutes, 8.017 seconds.

UT’s second eight boat with coxswain Kassie Budzik, Melanie Eckert, Jessica Smith, Kara Turner, Schyler Gilmour, Lauren Studey, Tea Vrtlar, Lyndsey DuBose and Angela Bumstead took sixth in 15:35.144. Texas’ third varsity eight took ninth and finished the 2.5-mile course in 15:41.950.

The Longhorns’ first varsity four boat of coxswain Budzik, Susac, McCaig, Clark and Redman took fifth in the collegiate fours event in 16:44.873. Texas’ second varsity four boat of coxswain Donnelly, Eckert, Smith, Nail and Bujala placed sixth in 16:47.874. UT’s third varsity four placed eighth in 16:55.955.

Texas resumes fall competition on Sunday, Oct. 21 at the Head of the Charles in Boston.
