Rowing wraps up semifinals at South/Central Regional

OAK RIDGE, Tenn. - The Texas Rowing team concluded its semifinal races at the Aramark South/Central Regional Saturday afternoon. The first varsity eight headlined the session with a second-place finish in its C/D semifinal, while the second varsity boat advances to the petite final. Texas' first varsity eight of coxswain Mary Cait McPherson, stroke Jen VanderMaarel, Felicia Izaguirre-Werner, Meg George, Karli Sheahan, Sara Cottingham, Callie Mattrisch, Colleen Irby and Nancy Arrington finished its race in 6:29.6, knocking off Miami (6:35.2) and Eastern Michigan (6:42.6), while falling to Tennessee (6:18.1). The 1V8 advances to the C final on Sunday.
The second varsity eight comprised of coxswain Annie Heiner, Stephanie Matejka, Angela Kirchner, Jelena Zunic, Courtney Nicklas, Jacqueline Gorcyca, Anna Thomson, Laura Perkins and Elizabeth Meserve posted a time of 6:35.0 in the A/B semifinals, finishing behind Virginia (6:08.9), Michigan State (6:09.03), Clemson (6:15.8), Notre Dame (6:16.0) and Iowa (6:18.9). The second varsity eight advances to the petite final.
The open four boat of coxswain Emma Dirks, Audrey Ullman, Julia Stevens, Natasia Giles and Liz Keenan crossed the finish in 7:26.33 in its C/D semifinal. Iowa's B boat won the race (7:18.3), while Notre Dame's B boat finished in 7:21.61 and Indiana placed third (7:24.82). Texas advances to the C final in the open four. Texas competes in the finals on Sunday, May 17 beginning at 9 a.m. Eastern. |
