No. 18 Rowing wins four on day one at Virginia Invitational

LAKE MONTICELLO, Va. - The 18th-ranked Texas Rowing team notched four victories in its five races on day one at the Virginia Invitational on Lake Monticello. The Horns recorded wins in the first varsity eight, third varsity eight, first varsity four and second varsity four races. Texas' first varsity eight of coxswain Emma Dirks, stroke Jen VanderMaarel, Laurel McCaig, Jacqueline Gorcyca, Jessica Glennie, Jelena Zunic, Anna Thomson, Sydney Boyes and Felicia Izaguirre-Werner downed UCLA, 7:16.7-to-7:18.8. The third varsity boat comprised of coxswain Kat Tong, stroke, Jillian Byron, Megan Sinclair, Lauren Studey, Phoebe Jordan, Johanna Neuber, Kiera Tate, Brenna Coldren and Renee Gutberlet bested Clemson, 8:18.2-to-8:35.7. The Longhorns' first varsity four of coxswain Katie Sayre, Taylor Parker, Margaret Harlow, Sally Tunell and Sarah Pedersen defeated UCLA, 8:52.9-to-8:53.5.
Texas' second varsity four coxswain Emily Lantz, Lyndsey DuBose, Shelly Beck, Devon Clark and Lauren Lehman knocked off Clemson, 8:52.0-to-9:01.7, while Clemson's other entry posted a time of 9:24.3. The Horns only loss came when its second varsity crew of coxswain Megan Kelly, stroke Charity McDonald, Courtney Nicklas, Katarina Susac, Tajana Lovric, Olivia Nail, Karli Sheahan, Hannah Moon and Chelsea Burns fell to UCLA, 7:44.1-to-7:46.2. Texas returns to the waters of Lake Monticello on Saturday, April 15 at 5 p.m. Central. |
