Rowing sweeps four races in fourth session of Longhorn Invitational
March 20, 2011 AUSTIN, Texas - The Texas Rowing team recorded four victories in the fourth session of the 2011 Longhorn Invitational on Lady Bird Lake, extending its regatta win total to 19. The Horns notched wins over San Diego in the first varsity eight, second varsity eight, first varsity four and first novice eight races. The Longhorns first varsity eight crew of coxswain Emma Dirks, stroke Jennifer VanderMaarel, Laurel McCaig, Jacqueline Gorcyca, Anna Thomson, Jelena Zunic, Jessica Glennie, Sydney Boyes and Felicia Izaguirre-Werner defeated the Toreros, 7:02.6-to-7:18.5. The second varsity eight comprised of coxswain Megan Kelly, stroke Charity McDonald, Courtney Nicklas, Hannah Moon, Chelsea Burns, Olivia Nail, Tea Vrtlar, Katarina Susac and Karli Sheahan bested San Diego, 7:12.7-to-7:30.8. Texas' first varsity four boat of coxswain Katie Sayre, Taylor Parker, Tajana Lovric, Devon Clark and Sarah Pederson downed USD, 8:12.7-to-8:19.5. Texas' first novice boat started the Horns' final session with a 7:36.2-to-7:51.3 victory over the Toreros. The Longhorn Invitational is a 2,000 meter dual-style race held annually on Lady Bird Lake. Texas and the seven other crews are competing in head-to-head races in each race of the weekend. Texas returns to the water on Saturday, April 2 when it travels to Kansas City, Mo. to take on Kansas in a dual race.
