Rowing posts three victories at Heart of Texas
March 2, 2013 AUSTIN, Texas - UT Rowing claimed victories in the open 8+, novice 8+ and novice 4+ divisions Saturday in the annual Heart of Texas regatta on Lady Bird Lake. The Texas "C" boat won the women's open 8+ division, as coxswain Katie Betsill, stroke Katarina Susac, Chelsea Burns, Audrey Springer-Wilson, Laurel McCaig, Olivia Nail, Taylor Dorsey, Kara Turner and Sara Walton took the win in 3:28.20. UT's "B" boat featuring coxswain Kassie Budzik, stroke Taylor Parker, Jessica Smith, Kim Gorcyca, Victoria Bujala, Devon Clark, Rachel Smith, Abbey Wilkowskiand Kimmie Winder took a close second in 3:30.26.
UT's "A" entry with coxswain Kenna Harris, stroke Brenna Coldren, Jessica Glennie, Melanie Eckert, Emily Jones, Heather Leighton, Kathryn Hemmert, Katie Trovato and Schyler Gilmourplaced third in the women's open 8+ in 3:35.83. UT's novice crew of coxswain Lauren Deschner, stroke Lucy Ellis, Danette Higginbotham, Taylor Wilson, Kate Walker, Taylor Marin, Hollis Scheffler and Katy Kazen placed fifth in the six-team event in 3:46.99. Texas claimed the top three spots in the women's novice 8+, as its "B" took the victory in 3:44.50. The boat featured coxswain Christine Young, stroke Casey Timmerman, Rachel Smith, Laken Carleton, Katy Hemmert, Rachel Trent, Vanessa Vandenworm, Victoria Centeno and Carmen Hargis-Villanueva. Also in the novice 8+, UT's "A" entry with coxswain Lauren Deschner, stroke Lucy Ellis, April Walker, Danette Higginbotham, Taylor Wilson, Kate Walker, Taylor Martin, Hollis Scheffler and Katy Kazen took second in 3:46.32. The "C" entry with coxswain Teresa Nguyen, stroke Lisa Sage, Corey Timmerman, Ashlynd Epstein, Courtney Long, Marissa Garza, Elizabeth Coyne, Libby Hill and Caroline Ullrich took third in the six-boat event in 3:52.82. The Longhorns' dominance continued in the novice fours, where UT's "A" crew featuring coxswain Teresa Nguyen, Laken Carleton, Carmen Hargis-Villanueva, Casey Timmerman and Ashlynd Epstein was victorious in 4:18.70. Texas added a second-place finish, as coxswain Brittany Norris, Rachel Trent, Lisa Sage, Victoria Centeno and Vanessa Vandenworm finished in 4:21.36. Texas will scrimmage against Old Dominion on March 15 at Lady Bird Lake. |
