AUSTIN, Texas -- The women's golf team hosted its 30th Alumni Reunion on Friday and Saturday, Dec. 3 and 4. Players representing every class since 1969 attended the event which included a dinner at the University Club on Friday and a golf tournament at The UT Golf Club on Saturday.
One of the more prominent members of the Texas golf family, former head coach Pat Weis, commented on the best part of the reunion. "Seeing everyone was great because I haven't seen some of these girls since my last year of coaching in 1993. I was very pleased with the turnout."
Forty former UT golfers, including five current LPGA Tour members, returned to swap stories and share memories.
"It was great to see everyone, new and old," said former Longhorn and current LPGA Tour member Cindy Figg-Currier. "The weather has really cooperated with us and I'm glad we were able to play the tournament. The reunion was a lot of fun."
Various awards were given out at the dinner including the "Farthest Traveled" award, which went to Cindy Haley Axe ('90) who came to Austin from California. There were also two individual National Champions in attendance over the weekend, Debbie Petrizzi (AIAW '78) and Heather Bowie (NCAA '97).
The weekend concluded with a golf tournament on Saturday made up of 60 participants including family members and donors.
"I was thrilled with the number of people that came and it turned out to be a wonderful weekend," said Texas head coach Susan Watkins. "This just shows that when you come to Texas, you aren't just here for four years, you are a Longhorn for life."
