Fish to join Women’s Golf program for spring semester

AUSTIN, Texas -- University of Texas women’s golf coach Susan Watkins announced Thursday that Texas prep standout Shannon Fish (Spring, Texas/Klein Oak H.S.) has signed a financial aid agreement with The University of Texas and will enroll at UT in January of 2007. Fish will join the Texas women’s golf program for the 2007 spring semester.

“Shannon has a great background as a competitor and joins us as one of the top junior players in the state of Texas,” Watkins said. “Upon her arrival, I expect Shannon to become a huge asset to our program.”

A member of the 2003 AJGA (American Junior Golf Association) Nike All-American Team, Fish has cracked the top 100 of the Golfweek Girls’ Junior Golf rankings.  Fish has competed successfully at the national level, with a victory at the AJGA Stars of Texas event on Aug. 11 at the UT Golf Club and a second-place finish in a USGA Junior Golf Girls’ qualifier event to her credit in 2006.

Fish also won the consolation bracket at the 2005 Western Junior Girls event and registered victories at the 2004 STPGA (Southern Texas Professional Golfers’ Association) Westfield Qualifier, 2004 USGA (U.S. Golf Association) Junior Girls Qualifier and the 2003 AJGA Nike event in Ames, Iowa.

She placed fourth at the 2006 Texas State 5A High School Championships after finishing fifth in the 2005 state meet. The 2005 girls’ regional and district champion, Fish has received All-District, All-Region and All-State accolades in each of the last three seasons. Fish has won five high school events throughout her prep career.

Fish was a nominee for the AJGA Hewlett Packard Scholastic All-America Team during the 2005-06 season.
