Women's Golf signs Vandermade to National Letter of Intent
AUSTIN, Texas -- University of Texas head women's golf coach Martha Richards announced Wednesday the signing of Canadian prep standout Nicole Vandermade (Brantford, Ontario) to a National Letter of Intent. Vandermade, who is Richards' initial signee at Texas, will join the Longhorns' program in the fall of 2008. "Nicole will be a great addition to our team," Richards said. "She is a high-level player who will come in and make a big impact. With all of her junior and international experience, Nicole will be a huge shot in the arm for us. For me, it's exciting to have such a great athlete joining our program. Nicole will have a great career here." A member of the 2007 Royal Canadian Golf Association (RCGA) National Junior Girls Team, Vandermade has been selected to the 2008 RCGA National Women's Development Team. Vandermade has taken top honors at two events this season, winning the Golf Association of Ontario Tournament of Champions and the Greens and Dreams Marlene Stewart Streit International Invitational. Vandermade also captured the 2006 AJGA Smithfield Junior Championship in Blairsville, Pa., and the 2006 Golf Association of Ontario Tournament of Champions. Vandermade tied for third at the 2007 RCGA Junior Girls National Championship after placing fourth at the same event in 2006. Vandermade was selected to represent Canada in the 2007 Duke of York Championship in Scotland and the 2006 Junior British Open in England. The MVP of her golf team at Assumption College High School, Vandermade also has played basketball competitively for nine years and has been named the team's MVP the last three seasons.
