Andersen tied for fourth after first round of Derby
AUBURN, Ala. -- Senior Devan Andersen carded an even par score of 72 in her first action of the fall season to tie for fourth after the first round of the Derby in Auburn, Ala. The University of Texas women's golf team sits in a tie for 10th place after Day 1. The Longhorns have a combined score of 308, 17 strokes off the pace set by first place and host Auburn with 291. Georgia and Duke are tied for second with identical scores of 294, while Virginia and Tennessee round out the top five with a score of 297 each for a tie at fourth. Andersen shot nines of 38 and 36 for the day to finish even par, only three strokes behind the leader Maria Martinez of Auburn who carded a 69. She boogied No. 5 to go two-over after eight holes but finished two-under for the last 10 holes with eight pars and two birdies. Sophomore Kelley Louth was second on the team in a tie for 45th with a score of 77, five-over par, while junior Julia Best finished with a first round total of 79, seven-over par, to finish tied for 56th. Freshmen Kristin Walla and Caney Hines ended the day tied for 62nd (80) and 78th (84), respectively, rounding out the five for the Longhorns.
