Women's Golf preview: Challenge at Onion Creek

UP NEXT: The Women’s Golf team will close its fall season in Austin next week (Nov. 2-3) when it plays in the Challenge at Onion Creek hosted by Texas State. The 54-hole event will begin Monday morning with a 7:30 a.m. Central shotgun start to tee off the first two rounds. Tuesday’s final round will begin with an 8 a.m. CT shotgun start. LIVE SCORING: Fans can follow the Longhorns in action online at http://www.golfstat.com. COURSE: Onion Creek’s North Course will play at par-70/5,938-yards. HOME COURSE ADVANTAGE: In addition to its true home course – The UT Golf Club – the Women’s Golf team also enjoys playing at other top-notch golf facilities in Austin, including Onion Creek Golf Club. Onion Creek’s hilly terrain is a test of a golfer’s accuracy and placement. THE FIELD: 21 teams – Augusta State, Baylor, Boise State, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Iowa State, Kennesaw State, Kentucky, Michigan, Missouri, Nebraska, San Francisco, TEXAS, Texas A&M, Texas State, Texas Tech, UALR, UTSA, Washington State, Wisconsin. TEXAS LINEUP: Martha Richards’ final lineup of the fall season includes her top-two returners from 2008-09 with sophomore Nicole Vandermade playing the No. 3 spot and senior Shannon Fish at No. 4. Freshman Madison Pressel holds the top position in the lineup, with freshmen Haley Stephens and Katelyn Sepmoree are playing at Nos. 2 and 5, respectively. Freshman Desiree Dubreuil will compete as an individual.
PRESSEL ETCHES NAME IN RECORD BOOK: Freshman Madison Pressel fired a school single-round record of 6-under-par 65 on the first day of the Stanford Intercollegiate to stand atop the leaderboard in the third tournament of her collegiate career. Pressel broke the previous school record of 67 that was held by three Texas Exes – Jessica Reese, Kristin Dufour and Heather Bowie. Thirteen players in Texas history have recorded rounds of 68. AND TEAM SETS RECORD, TOO: As a team, the Longhorns also etched their names in the record book with a school-record 5-under 279 to finish the opening round in third place in the Stanford Intercollegiate. Texas’ previous 18-hole record was set just one year ago when it fired a raw score of 281 in the final round of the UNLV Showdown. |
