AUSTIN, Texas -- A mixed team of current and former players, along with University of Texas head coach Susan Watkins, took the trophy home at the first-ever Weis Cup at the University of Texas Golf Club in Austin on Saturday.
The current players team won 10.5 to 7.5 after the 18-hole, four-ball tournament. The current players took three matches to two by the alumni team, with the final of six groups tying on the final hole.
"This event is long overdue," said Coach Watkins. "We wanted to show our appreciation for all of the work Coach [Pat] Weis has done for the women's golf program here at Texas. We had a great response and next year we hope to make it even better. Pat made this a family and we are working to keep that tradition growing."
