Women's Golf eleventh after first round of Stanford Pepsi Intercollegiate

PALO ALTO, Calif. -- Senior Perry Swenson (Charlotte, N.C.) shot an even par 70 in the opening round of the Stanford Pepsi Intercollegiate (Stanford Golf Course: Par 70, 5,853 yards) on Friday, Oct. 15 to help put The University of Texas in eleventh place after the first day. The Longhorns, playing in their third tournament in as many weeks, totaled a 17-over-par 297 leaving them 15 strokes behind Arizona St., which leads at two-over-par. Pepperdine's Rachel Kyono and Washington's Paige Mackenzie are tied at the top of the individual leaderboard at three-under-par.

"We were a little tired today," said Texas head coach Susan Watkins. "We'll rest up tonight and put together a better effort in the second round."

Senior Lisa Ferrero (Lodi, Calif.) returned to her home course and carded a three-over-par 73 leaving her in a tie for 29th place. Freshman Kelley Louth (Victoria, Texas) shot a six-over-par 76, while junior Devan Andersen (Guadalajar, Mexico) finished with an eight-over-par 78 and sophomore Ashley Prust (Englewood, Colo.) shot a 14-over-par 84.

Play will resume on Saturday, Oct. 16 at 8:30 a.m. (Pacific).
