Rookie Hanes tied for 17th after two-over-par round at Lady Tar Heel
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. -- The University of Texas women's golf team sits in 13th place after Day 2 of the Lady Tar Heel Invitational in Chapel Hill, N.C., led by rookie freshman Caney Hines who sits in a tie for 17th place after shooting a two over-par 74.
The Longhorns have a combined score of 619 to sit alone in 13th place through two days of the three day tournament hosted by North Carolina.
Duke leads the tournament with a two-round total, six over-par 582. Auburn sits in second with a 10 over-par 586, Vanderbilt is in third place with a 15 over-par 591, Wake Forest is in fourth with a 19 over-par 595 and Texas A&M rounds out the top five with a 22 over-par 598.
Hines shot a first round three over-par 75, then followed with a two over-par 74 to move into a tied for 17th place.
Junior Julia Best followed her opening round score of one under-par 71 with a nine over-par 81 to fall from third place to a tie for 29th place, second on the Texas squad for th tournament.
Fellow freshman Kristin Walla sits in a tie for 60th with a two-round total of 14 over-par 158 followed by sophomore Brittany Givilancz who is tied for 74th with back-to-back eight over-par 80s in her first action of the season. Sophomore Kelley Louth rounds out the Texas five tied for 82nd place with a score of 19 over-par 163.
