Women's Golf moves into third after second round of Franklin Street Partners Invitational

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. -- The 10th-ranked University of Texas women's golf team shot an eight-over-par 296 on Saturday, Oct. 9 to move into third place with a two-day total of 597 (301-296=597, +21) at the Franklin Street Partners Invitational (Finley Golf Course: Par 72, 6,285 yards). No. 1 Duke currently leads the competition at four-under-par, 13 strokes ahead of second place Auburn. Senior Lisa Ferrero (Lodi, Calif.) carded a second-round one-under-par 71, leaving her in a tie for fifth place at one-over-par, five shots behind Duke's Elizabeth Janangelo, who leads the tournament at four-under-par.

"We improved on yesterday's score," explained Texas head coach Susan Watkins. "We had one player shoot under par today, but we need a few more scores to be under par in the third round if we want to put some pressure on the current leaders."

Ferrero started the day in a tie for eighth place after shooting an opening-round 74, but moved into a tie for fifth place after a one-under-par 71 on Saturday. Senior Perry Swenson (Charlotte, N.C.) shot an even-par 72 (75-72=147) in the second round to put herself in a three-way tie for eighth place at three-over-par with freshman Kelley Louth (Victoria, Texas), who shot a three-over-par 75 (72-75=147), and Auburn's Diana Ramage.

Junior Devan Andersen (Guadalajara, Mexico) carded a six-over-par 78 (80-78=158) and is now tied for 33rd place at 14-over-par. Sophomore Julia Best (Bulverde, Texas) is tied for 36th place at 15-over-par (80-79=159) after shooting a second-round 79.

The Longhorns will start their third round at 9:45 a.m. (Eastern) on Sunday, Oct. 10, when they will play with golfers from Duke and Auburn.
