Women's Golf in fourth after first round of Franklin Street Partners Invitational

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. -- The University of Texas Women's Golf team sits in fourth place after the first round of the Franklin Street Partners Invitational (Finley Golf Course: Par 72, 6,285 yards) on Friday, October 8. The Longhorns shot a combined 301 (+13), which leaves them seven shots behind leader Duke heading into the second round. Freshman Kelley Louth (Victoria, Texas) carded an even par 72 to place her in a tie for second with three others, three shots behind leader Maggie Simmons of Wake Forest.

"We came here looking to make a statement," said Texas head coach Susan Watkins. "We got off to a rocky start, but I expect us to battle back over the next two days."

Senior Lisa Ferrero (Lodi, Calif.) finished the first day tied for eighth at two-over-par, while fellow-senior Perry Swenson (Charlotte, N.C.) came in one shot behind Ferrero at three-over-par. Junior Devan Andersen (Guadalajara, Mexico) and sophomore Julia Best (Bulverde, Texas) both shot eight-over-par 80s to leave them in a tie for 33rd place.

The Longhorns will begin play on Saturday, Oct. 9 at 9:45 a.m. (Eastern) and will be joined by players from North Carolina and Florida St. in the three person groups.
