Hines tied for ninth at Lady Tar Heel Invitational
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. -- For the second day in a row, University of Texas sophomore Caney Hines led the Longhorns women's golf team at the Lady Tar Heel Invitational, firing a one-over par 73 Saturday at the 6,2985-yard UNC Finley Golf Course.
Hines (San Antonio, Texas) moved up from 11th after a first-round three-over 75 on Friday, and currently is tied for ninth with Ohio State's Jennifer Cassidy and UNC's Katie Miller. The trio have carded a four-over par 148 after two rounds and stand just four strokes out of first place.
Duke's Jennie Lee has shot even par over the first two days of action and sits in first place in the individual standings with a 72-72-144, one stroke ahead of Florida State's Caroline Westrup and Texas A&M's Ashley Kroll, both tied for second at 145.
As a team, Texas sits in the final spot in the 17-team field with a +69 over the first two days of the Lady Tar Heel event. Vanderbilt University continues to lead the field. After carding a 301 (+13) Friday, Vandy again had the lowest round Saturday with a six-over 294. Vanderbilt (595) is five strokes ahead of North Carolina (600) and nine strokes up on Virginia (604) heading into the final day of play.
UT freshman Brittany Tomerlin (San Angelo, Texas) recorded a five-over part 77 Saturday, and currently stands in a tie for 58th after rounds of 83 and 77.
Sunday's final round is slated for an 8 a.m. (Central) start.
