Hines leads Women's Golf on first day of Lady Tar Heel Invitational
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. -- University of Texas sophomore Caney Hines (San Antonio, Texas) sits in a tie for 11th place after shooting a three-over 75 on Friday as the Longhorns kicked off the Lady Tar Heel Invitational at the par 72, 6,285-yard UNC Finley Golf Course. Texas sits in 17th place at 36-over par, while Vanderbilt leads the tournament at 13-over par with 36 holes remaining. Individually, Duke's Jennie Lee leads the field at even par.
Sophomore Kristin Walla (Aspen, Colo.) and freshmen Alex Richards (Austin, Texas) and Brittany Tomerlin (San Angelo, Texas) shot identical rounds of 11-over par to end the day in a tie for 72nd place. Freshman Raelyn Smith (Odessa, Texas) sits in a tie for 80th place after shooting 13-over par on the day.
The Longhorns' two sophomores and three freshmen took the course late in the morning after thunderstorms delayed the tournament's start. Saturday's second round is slated for an 8 a.m. CDT start.
