No. 25 Women's Golf finishes 12th at Mason Rudolph
FRANKLIN, Tenn. -- The No. 25 ranked University of Texas women's golf team finished the Mason Rudolph Women's Championship in 12th place after three rounds of competition Sunday in Franklin, Tenn. Freshman Caney Hines was the top finisher for the Longhorns at 44th place with a three round total of 15-over par 231. She opened the tournament with a career-first and low round of 74, but struggled with rounds of 76 and 81 to finish the tournament on Saturday and Sunday, respectively. Fellow rookie Kristin Walla was also impressive in her debut for the burnt orange and white, carding a final round six-over par 78, the second lowest round for the team on Sunday. Her first two rounds she shot back-to-back 77s, and moved up from 52nd place on the final day to tie for 46th in her first collegiate competition. No. 2 ranked Duke took the team title with a 14-over par 878, followed closely by Georgia at 881 and Arkansas at third with 884. UCLA finished fourth with a 21-over par 885 and Auburn rounded out the top five with a three-day total of 889. Texas finished five strokes behind Oklahoma State with a 63-over par total of 927. UT had finished each round either tied or holding the No. 12 spot throughout the competition. Sophomore Kelley Louth had the low score of the day for UT, carding a five-over par 77 in her final round. She finished with a three round total of 17-over par, 233 in a tie for 51st place. Junior Julia Best also finished with a 17-over par score of 233 to tie her teammate and several others for the 51st spot. Best shot 79 in her final round, improving two shots from her 81 the day previous. She carded a career-low 73 in her first round Friday. Junior Ashley Prust was consistent in the final two days of action carding back-to-back 80s to finish the tournament. She tied for 77th place in the competition. The Longhorns will hit the tees next when they head to the Franklin Street Partners Invitational in Chapel Hill, N.C. on Oct. 7-9.
