Hitting the Range: Kelley Louth

As a two time all-state selection in Texas, freshman Kelley Louth was one of the top high school golfers last year. She joined a Longhorns' squad full of veteran leadership, but ready to make an impact. After finishing her first collegiate tournament, the NCAA Fall Preview, at 12-over-par (75-74-76=225), the Victoria, Texas native is looking forward to bigger and better things as the season progresses. Louth took a break between tournaments to hit the range with TexasSports.com.

On her first collegiate tournament:
The thing the one thing that stuck out the most was the positive support I received from the team. It was a great experience. I learned a lot about my teammates and our ability to work together. The rest of the year should be exciting because I know this team can play some awesome golf.

On her play:
I played pretty consistently in the first tournament. I definitely think that I can improve and with hard work, by nationals, my game will be much stronger.

On the difference between collegiate and junior golf:

The biggest difference between the two is the support and guidance you receive from your team and coaches. Junior golf is strictly individual and college golf is great because you have teammates. Having a team is great because they are there to help, if you need it, and you really feel like it's a team sport.

On the upperclassmen:

I have benefited greatly from the upperclassmen's leadership and encouragement. They are all talented players and have already helped improve many parts of my game. They have also made my transition to college a lot smoother.

On the other freshmen:

We get along great and I really enjoy having them as teammates. They are all excellent players and we help each other improve every day. I am excited to spend the next four years with them and I know we have a lot of low scores to come.

On the team goals for this season:

I think that with hard work and dedication we can finish the season as Big 12 and National Champions.

On the coaching staff:
Coach Watkins and Coach Arnett are very supportive and will go above and beyond to help the team improve and be successful. I am honored to be playing for them and they have taught me so much physically and mentally about my golf game in just the two months that I have been here. I think, with their coaching abilities and our hard work, we will definitely be able to reach our goals.

On the UT Golf Club:

The UT Golf Club is an amazing place to play and practice. The course is challenging, and it is always in great shape. The practice facilities are wonderful as well and provide a variety of practice areas and shots. I am thankful to have such a nice place to develop my game.
