Women's Golf preview: Mason Rudolph Women's Championship

UP NEXT: The Texas Women’s Golf team will compete in the 10th annual Mason Rudolph Women’s Championship at the Vanderbilt Legends Club in Franklin, Tenn., Sept. 24-26. LIVE SCORING: Fans can follow the Longhorns in action online at http://www.golfstat.com. COURSE: Vanderbilt Legends Club North Course will be set up to play at par-72, 6,281-yards. PLAY: Eighteen holes will take place on Friday through Sunday, with fixed tee times on number one and 10 starting at 8 a.m. CT on Friday and Saturday and 7:30 a.m. CT Sunday. TEXAS LINEUP: Head coach Martha Richards’ second lineup of the season is led by junior Nicole Vandermade (Brantford, Ontario) in the No. 1 position. Sophomore Katelyn Sepmoree (Tyler, Texas) will compete in the second spot, while sophomore Madison Pressel (Boca Raton, Fla.) makes her season debut at No. 3. Freshman Rebecca Lee-Bentham (Scarborough, Ontario) and sophomore Haley Stephens (Greer, S.C.) round out the team. Junior Megan Rosenfeld (Plano, Texas) will tee it up as an individual. No. 2 – Katelyn Sepmoree -finished tied for 42nd at the NCAA Fall Preview (76-74-73=223, +7) -second appearance in the top two positions of the Texas lineup this season … was slotted No. 1 entering the Preview No. 3 – Madison Pressel No. 4 – Rebecca Lee-Bentham No. 5 – Haley Stephens THE FIELD: This year’s Mason Rudolph field includes 14 teams in the 2010-11 Golfweek Magazine Preseason Top 30: 1. Purdue, 2. UCLA, 3. USC, 4. Alabama, 6. Duke, 7. Auburn, 8. Wake Forest, 10. Vanderbilt, 11. Stanford, 13. Georgia, 16. LSU, 19. Florida, 20. North Carolina and 27. TEXAS. Arizona State, California, Oklahoma State and College of Charleston round out the 18-team field. LAST TIME OUT (SEPT. 13-15, 2010): The University of Texas Women’s Golf team (299-298-301) tied for 13th place in its season debut at the NCAA Fall Preview with a 54-hole score of 34-over-par 898. Sophomore Haley Stephens (73-73-75) finished with a 5-over 221 at Traditions Golf Club to lead the Longhorns on the individual leaderboard in a tie for 37th place. LAST TIME AT VANDERBILT LEGENDS (SEPT. 25-27, 2009): Freshman Madison Pressel fired a final-round 3-under-par 69 in the rain-shortened Mason Rudolph Women’s Championship to secure a tie for 15th place with a 36-hole score of 3-under 141 (72-69). As a team, the Longhorns carded a final-round 6-over 294 to finish in 15th place at 8-over 584 (290-294). VANDERBILT CONNECTION: To say that Texas head coach Martha Richards and assistant coach Tracy Parsons are familiar with the Vanderbilt Legends Club would be an understatement. Before taking over the reins of the Texas program in 2007, Richards guided Vanderbilt to two NCAA Top-10 finishes and mentored seven All-Americans during her seven-year stint with the Commodores. Parsons served as Richards’ assistant coach at Vanderbilt for three seasons (2004-07) before also making the move to Texas. |
