SUNRIVER, Ore. -- The University of Texas Women's Golf team improved on the second day of the NCAA Fall Preview shooting a combined 11-over-par 295 at Meadows Golf Course (Par 71, 6,312 yards) on Tuesday, Sept. 21. With a two-day total of 596 (+28), UT is tied with Arizona in 13th place as it enters the final day of competition. Junior Devan Andersen (Guadalajara, Mexico) led the Longhorns with a one-over-par 72, which has her tied for 21st on the individual leaderboard.
"We did a much better job hitting the fairways and greens today," said head coach Susan Watkins. "If we can tighten up our approach shots on Wednesday, I think we will make some puts and score nicely."
Senior Lisa Ferrero (Lodi, Calif.) matched her first round score with a three-over-par 74 on Tuesday. She is now tied for 34th on the individual leaderboard. Freshman Kelley Louth (Victoria, Texas) bettered her first round total by one stroke, shooting a three-over-par 74 on Tuesday. Sophomore Julia Best (Bulverde, Texas) improved by three strokes in the second round, shooting a four-over-par 75. Senior Perry Swenson (Charlotte, N.C.) battled back from a tough first day, finishing with a six-over-par 77.
"This is a great tournament to play in at the beginning of the year," explained Watkins. "We get a chance to see what the NCAA Championship course is like, so we will be prepared when we return at the end of the season."
After the second round, Duke and Washington are tied at nine-over-par (577). Karin Sjodin of Oklahoma State and Arizona State's Louise Stahl are tied at eight-under-par (134) at the top of the individual leaderboard.
The third round will commence at 8 a.m. Pacific on Wednesday, Sept. 21.
