Women's Golf ranked among nation's elite

AUSTIN, Texas -- The University of Texas men's and women's golf teams are ranked 12th and 25th, respectively, according to Golfworld's preseason rankings, which were released on Friday, September 9. The men's squad also broke the top 30 in the Golfweek poll as well, landing the No. 15 spot.

Additionally, Golfweek named senior Matthew Rosenfeld (Plano, Texas) among the nation's top returnees, while Golf World named him as one of its "50 Players to Watch."

Sophomore standout Kelley Louth (Victoria, Texas) was listed by Golfweek among the nation's top returnees on the women's side for the Longhorns.

The men's team returns seven players who competed in at least six tournaments last season. Three returnees - Rosenfeld, Jeff Bell (Plano, Texas) and Farren Keenan (Middlesex, England) - were among the five-man lineup that led Texas to a fourth-place at the 2004 NCAA Championships.

The women's team returns five players from the 2004 squad and welcomes four newcomers to the team. Besides Louth, the UT team returns junior Devan Andersen and sophomores Julia Best and Brittany Givilancz. All four competed in at least four tournaments last season with Louth and Best having the most experience with 10 and eight tournaments, respectively.

The men will open their season when they compete in the upcoming Inverness Intercollegiate Invitational on Sept. 19-20 at the Inverness Country Club in Toledo, Ohio.

The women's team will begin the fall season on Sept. 23-25 at the Mason Rudolph Women's Championship in Nashville Tenn.
