Women's Golf completes day one at Dick McGuire Invitational

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. -- University of Texas sophomore Kristin Walla (Aspen, Colo.) led the Longhorns with rounds of 73 and 76 to shoot three-over par on the day as UT wrapped up 36 holes of competition Monday at the Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational at the UNM Championship Course. Texas sits in 17th place at 34-over par with 18 holes remaining on Tuesday. Arizona State leads the tournament at nine-under par.

Walla carded a 73 in the tournament's opening round at the par-73, 6,069-yard UNM Championship Course. She followed her opening round with a three-over 76 to finish in a tie for 26th place on the day. Senior Julia Best (Bulverde, Texas) finished in a tie for 37th place after carding rounds of 76 and 75 for five-over par after 36 holes.

Freshman Alex Richards (Austin, Texas/Lake Travis) made a strong collegiate debut, finishing at six-over (76-76) par to wrap up the first day tied for 43rd place. Sophomore Caney Hines (San Antonio, Texas) is in 90th place at 21-over par. Junior Kelley Louth (Victoria, Texas) carded a 79 for six-over par in the opening round but withdrew from the tournament before the second round.

The final round begins Tuesday at 9 a.m. CDT (8 a.m. MDT) in Albuquerque.
