Aug. 24, 2011

MONTREAL, Quebec -- Texas Women’s Golf senior Nicole Vandermade will be teeing it up in her homeland this week at the LPGA CN Canadian Women’s Open (Aug. 25-28) at Hillsdale Golf & Country Club in Montreal. She was granted an exemption in the championship tournament by Golf Canada for her play this year as a member of the national women's golf team.

Vandermade’s playing group for the first two rounds on Thursday and Friday includes professionals Maude-Aimee LeBlanc and Shi Hyun Ahn. The trio will tee off of the 10th hole at 6:20 a.m. Central Thursday, and off of the first hole at 12 p.m. Friday.

Previously, Vandermade earned an exemption in the 2009 LPGA CN Canadian Women's Open by finishing as the low Canadian at the Women's British Amateur Championship.

Vandermade will be joined in the 156-player field by former Longhorns Sherri Steinhauer and 2011 Texas Women’s Hall of Honor inductee Heather Bowie Young.

Past champions of the event include a ‘Who's Who’ of LPGA stars including defending champion Michelle Wie (2010), Suzann Pettersen (2009), Katherine Hull (2008), Lorena Ochoa (2007), Cristie Kerr (2006), Meena Lee (2005), Meg Mallon (2002, 2004), Beth Daniel (2003) and Annika Sorenstam (2001).
