Best captures title at Collegiate Players Tour National Championship
EULESS, Texas -- University of Texas senior Julia Best shot an even-par 213 to claim a nine-stroke victory in the Collegiate Players Tour National Championship at the par 71, 5,922-yard Texas Star Golf Course on Friday, Aug. 9. Best (Bulverde, Texas) opened the 25-player event with an even-par 71 before shaving off a stroke in round two with a one-under 70. Best closed the event with a one-over 72 to finish with the even-par 213. "I had a good first day, and then I just got in the zone and played well throughout the remainder of the tournament," Best said. "I had played in the tournament before, so I knew I would not be scared or nervous. It was a great way to end the summer." Limited by injury during the 2006-07 season, Best played in one event, the season-opening Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational in Albuquerque, N.M., where she finished in a tie for 32nd place. Best has been granted a medical hardship waiver for the 2006-07 season, making the 2006 All-Big 12 standout eligible for competition through the 2007-08 season.
