Women's Golf duo bows out at U.S. Women's Amateur

ERIE, Pa. -- University of Texas senior Lisa Ferrero (Lodi, Calif.) shot a seven-over-par 79 on day two of the U.S. Women's Amateur Golf Championship at The Kahkwa Club on Tuesday, August 10. Her total of 156 (77-79) put her in a tie with 10 others for the final spot in the match play draw, but in the playoff, Ferrero bogeyed the second hole to fall out of contention. Incoming freshman Kelley Louth (Victoria, Texas) bounced back from an opening day 85 to shoot a 78 in the second round to finish tied for 115th with a two-round total of 163.

Ferrero was up and down to start her second round, going bogey, birdie, bogey, par on the first four holes. She finished the front nine with a 38, the same as her first round. She couldn't keep the momentum going and shot a 41 on the back nine to finish tied for 64th with 10 others, forcing the playoff.

Louth improved on her first day by seven strokes. She'd bogey her first three holes. She made par on each of the next five holes and a birdie on number nine to make the turn at 38. The soon-to-be Longhorn completed her tournament by making par on five of the last nine holes and finished with a 163 (85-78).
