Aug. 10, 2011
BARRINGTON, R.I. -- Texas junior Haley Stephens carded a two-round total of 7-over-par 149 (75-74) in the U.S. Women’s Amateur Championship to finish tied for 64th place. Stephens met the 149 cut line with four additional players but failed to advance to Wednesday’s first round of match play as the five players vied for the remaining spot in the field of 64. Stephens’ second-round scorecard included a stretch of three-straight birdies on the 13th, 14th and 15th holes of the par-71, 6,399-yard Rhode Island C.C., preceded by a birdie at 11. Six bogeys and a double bogey offset her subpars to result in the 3-over round. New Zealand’s Lydia Koy and South Korea’s Jihee Kim shared stroke-play honors at 7-under 136. The U.S. Women’s Amateur continues Thursday with rounds two and three, with the quarterfinals and semifinals set for Friday and Saturday, respectively. The Women’s Amateur concludes with the 36-hole championship final Sunday.
