Catching up with Kelley Louth

All-Big 12 Conference golfer Kelley Louth is one of seven UT golfers from the Lone Star State. Louth, who begins her junior year this fall, hails from Victoria, Texas. She is spending her summer in Austin and continues her game development at The University of Texas Golf Club.

Earlier this summer, Kelley advanced to the match-play round for the first time in her career at the U.S. Women's Amateur Public Links Championship (WAPL). She finished 1-1 for the match play portion of the tournament and tied for 36th with a two-day total of seven-over-par 151 (73-78) in the qualifying stroke play portion.

This past spring for the Longhorns, Louth played in nine outings, registering a 79.11 average (third-best on the team). She carded a season-low round of 73 in the opening 18 holes of the Susie Maxwell Berning Classic on April 9-10. Louth's best finish of 2005-06, a tie for 19th-place, was also at the Susie Maxwell.

The former Big 12 Newcomer of the Year took a few minutes to answer a few questions on how her summer is going and what her focus has been while in Austin.

Summer location: Austin
Local club for the summer: University of Texas Golf Club
Three goals for the summer: Work hard on my short game, work on new shots and feel confident about my game.
Favorite club to hit on the range and why: My seven-iron, because I've always liked it.
Least favorite club to hit on the range and why: I really like hitting any of my clubs, but I would have to say my least favorite is my four-iron, because it's not as accurate as my short irons.
Something you learned this summer: I learned to enjoy everything you do, be thankful for all the opportunities that you are given, and make the most of each one.
If someone asked you what you miss about Texas and Austin, you would say…? I love the UT campus area and all of the awesome opportunities and beautiful places that Austin has to offer. I am glad I did not leave the area this summer.
Something you want to get better at this summer: I hope to get stronger by lifting weights to gain power and consistency in my golf game.
The movie you are going to definitely see before summer ends: I'll have to wait and see what looks good!
What have you discovered about summers in Austin? I love Austin summers because we have a great golf facility to practice at, and we have fun places like Barton Springs (a natural spring-fed pool) for when you just need to cool off!
