Hines sets course record, claims Women's Collegiate Players Tour Golf event
AUSTIN, Texas -- University of Texas rising junior Caney Hines scored her second tournament victory in as many weeks Thursday when she claimed a 10-stroke victory in the 54-hole Collegiate Players Tour (CPT) event at The Hills Country Club's Flintrock Falls Golf Course.
Hines (San Antonio, Texas/Reagan HS) opened the event on Wednesday, July 18 with a seven-under 65, good for a personal best and a new course record at Flintrock Falls. "When I came back to the clubhouse with the 65 after the first round," Hines explained, "I had no idea I had the course record. It never crossed my mind. I was just excited I had shot a 65, and I guess that was evident in my second round."
Though she dropped to a 78 in Wednesday's second round, Hines finished strong on Thursday with an even-par 72 to win the event, featuring over 30 players, by 10 strokes.
"I knew I needed to come out today and put up a good score," Hines said, "and it was great to come up with another win."
Hines' victory was her second win this month. On Tuesday, July 10, Hines finished at one-over par to win the 36-hole Women's Trans National Amateur Championship in Louisville, Ky.
By way of Thursday's victory, Hines secured a berth in the CPT National Championship to be contested Aug. 6-9 at the Texas Star Golf Course in Euless, Texas.
