July 15, 2009

WELLINGTON, Fla. -- University of Texas signee Madison Pressel added to her impressive list of accomplishments on the golf course by earning medalist honors at the U.S. Women’s Amateur Sectional Qualifier on July 14 and a berth in the upcoming U.S. Women’s Amateur Championship.  Pressel fired a 2-under-par 70 at The Wanderers Club in Wellington, Fla., to finish atop the leaderboard.

Pressel is ranked as the No. 30 prospect in the nation by Golfweek and is 44th in the worldwide AJGA Polo Rankings.  She won the 2008 Florida Class 2A State Tournament after placing third as a sophomore and fourth as a junior. Pressel is the back-to-back South Florida Sun-Sentinel Girls' Golfer of the Year, and previously qualified for the U.S. Women's Amateur Public Links Championship and the U.S. Girls' Junior Amateur Championship where she finished third in the stroke-play portion with rounds of 69-71.

On the AJGA circuit, Pressel finished second in the 2008 Coca-Cola Junior Championship at Boyne Highlands and is riding a five-tournament streak of top-30 finishes.

Pressel is the younger sister of two-time LPGA Tour winner Morgan Pressel.

The 2009 U.S. Women’s Amateur will be contested Aug. 3-9 at the Warson Country Club in St. Louis, Mo.
