Women’s Golf signee Vandermade to play Nationwide Tour event
AUSTIN, Texas -- University of Texas incoming freshman Nicole Vandermade has received a personal invitation from fellow Canadian Wayne Gretzky to play in this week's inaugural Ford Wayne Gretzky Classic, presented by Samsung, on the Nationwide Tour. The 72-hole event is set for June 26-29 at The Georgian Bay Club in Clarksburg, Ontario. The Golf Channel will air coverage from all four rounds. A member of the 2007 Royal Canadian Golf Association (RCGA) National Junior Girls Team, Vandermade (Brantford, Ontario) is a member of the 2008 RCGA National Women's Development Team. Vandermade took top honors at two events last season, winning the Golf Association of Ontario Tournament of Champions and the Greens and Dreams Marlene Stewart Streit International Invitational. Vandermade also captured the 2006 AJGA Smithfield Junior Championship in Blairsville, Pa., and the 2006 Golf Association of Ontario Tournament of Champions. Vandermade tied for third at the 2007 RCGA Junior Girls National Championship after placing fourth at the same event in 2006. Vandermade was selected to represent Canada in the 2007 Duke of York Championship in Scotland and the 2006 Junior British Open in England. The MVP of her golf team at Assumption College High School, Vandermade also played basketball competitively for nine years and has been named the team's MVP the last three seasons.
