Summer diary: Nicole Vandermade

June 15, 2009

Hello from Canada,

I hope this update finds everyone in Austin - and Longhorn fans everywhere - doing well. The summer is flying by, and it’s hard to believe that it’s already mid-June.

I was in Wales with the Canadian National Team recently, and while there, I played in the Women’s British Amateur Championship. Before the Am, we played an international match again France, and I won my match 4 & 2, and Canada beat France 4-2.

I felt like I played really well at the Am and finished as the low Canadian. The course was a par-73, and on the first day I shot 79 (+6), which was unfortunate considering my snowman (8) on the 17th hole. I came back the next day with a 70 and was seeded 23rd entering match play. In match play, I defeated a future Arizona State Sun Devil 1 Up in the first round before falling to New Mexico’s Jodi Ewert, 1 Up.

The good news is that the two lowest Canadians gained an exemption into the LPGA CN Canadian Women’s Open, Sept. 3-6 in Calgary. Pros like Lorena Ochoa, Annika Sorenstam and Beth Daniel are past winners at this tournament, and I can’t wait to tee it up with the best in the world!

Well, that’s all for now. I’ll be in touch more throughout the summer to keep everyone up-to-date on my adventures in golf.

Hook ‘em!
Nicole Vandermade
