Women's Golf signs Walla to National Letter of Intent

AUSTIN, Texas -- Kristin Walla of Aspen, Colo. (Aspen HS) has signed a National Letter of Intent with The University of Texas women's golf team, head coach Susan Watkins announced on Wednesday. Walla will join the Longhorns in the fall for the 2005-06 academic year.

"I first found out about Kristin while I was living in Colorado," said head coach Susan Watkins. "I've been keeping up on her for a long time and we are certainly excited that she has decided to join us in Austin."

Walla was third on Colorado's State 4A scoring list with an average of 78.4 as a senior at Aspen HS. She won her fourth consecutive 4A Western Slope regional championship by five strokes on May 11. She went on to finish second at the state championship after carding a seven-over-par 151 (76-75). Walla had tied for fourth at the state tournament as a junior at nine-over-par. During her prep career, Walla won 17 tournaments, including five in 2005.

During the summer of 2004, Walla earned a victory at the Colorado Junior Championships, was a semifinalist at the Colorado Junior Match Play Championship and took fifth place at the Colorado Stroke Play Championship.

Before focusing on golf, Walla was one of the nation's best junior skiers. She took gold in the aerials at the Junior Olympics in 2001, '03 and '04.

Walla will join Watkins' fall class of signees for the 2005-06 academic year in which she signed high school teammates Caney Hines (San Antonio, Texas/Ronald Reagan) and Meredith McMahan (San Antonio, Texas/Ronald Reagan), along with Erica Doody (Houston, Texas/Lamar).
