Vandermade earns All-Big 12 Women's Golf honors

IRVING, Texas -- Texas freshman Nicole Vandermade has been named to the 2009 All-Big 12 Women’s Golf Team, the league office announced Thursday. The official All-Big 12 awards are identified by using the Top 10 highest-ranked student-athletes according to the Golfweek/Sagarin Rankings following the Big 12 Championship. Vandermade (Brantford, Ontario) posted a team-best scoring average of 75.07 and recorded UT’s best individual finish in four events. She also landed All-Tournament Team honors after tying for 10th place at last week’s Big 12 Women’s Golf Championship. With the honor, Vandermade becomes Texas’ second All-Big 12 selection under second-year head coach Martha Richards, joining 2008 honoree Ashley Rollins. Vandermade and the Longhorns will return to action next week in the NCAA West Regional Championship hosted by Arizona State. The 54-hole event will tee off on Thursday, May 7. 2009 All-Big 12 Women’s Golf Team Player of the Year Newcomer of the Year Coach of the Year * - This year’s team was increased to 11 individuals to include Texas A&M’s Ashley Freeman, who was this year’s medalist at the Big 12 Championship.
