April 25, 2011
AUSTIN, Texas -- The University of Texas Women’s Golf team has earned an automatic conference bid in the 2011 NCAA Central Regional Championship as the No. 6 seed. The regional will be played May 5-7 at the Warren Golf Course in South Bend, Ind., hosted by Notre Dame. The Longhorns earned the Big 12 Conference’s automatic bid to the Regional by winning their third Big 12 Championship title on Sunday.
The NCAA Regional Championship berth marks Texas’ fourth-consecutive appearance in the postseason and its 26th overall. Last year, the Longhorns advanced to the NCAA Championship for the third-consecutive season under head coach Martha Richards after tying for third place at the NCAA West Regional Championship that was contested in Palo Alto, Calif.
Twenty-four teams and six individuals will join Texas in the 54-hole regional, including three top-10 teams – No. 2 UCLA, No. 6 LSU and No. 7 Duke (Golfweek/Sagarin Rankings as of April 24, 2011). UT will also play alongside Big 12 Conference rival Oklahoma State, as well as in-state foe North Texas.
The top-eight team finishers and top-two individuals not playing on the eight qualifying teams will earn bids to compete at the 2011 NCAA Women’s Golf Championship from May 18-21 at the Traditions Club in College Station, Texas, hosted by Texas A&M
