Second-team All-Big 12 selections senior Lisa Ferrero and freshman Kelley Louth, along with the rest of the Longhorns, begin play at the Big 12 women's golf championship on Friday, April 22.
AUSTIN, Texas -- Freshman Kelley Louth (Victoria, Texas) earned the Big 12 Newcomer of the Year award as a part of the conference's awards banquet at the Austin Country Club on Thursday. Louth was also named second-team All-Big 12, as was senior Lisa Ferrero (Lodi, Calif.).
Louth has recorded three Top-10 finishes so far this season and is second on the team in scoring average at 75.37 (8th/Big 12). Her scoring average is the best UT freshman mark since Michiko Hattori's 73.71 in 1988.
Ferrero enters her fourth Big 12 Championship leading the Longhorns in scoring average at 74.9 (7th/Big 12). She has posted two Top-10 finishes this season including a sixth place at the Franklin Street Partners Invitational.
The Longhorns will begin play at the Big 12 Championship, which is being held at The University of Texas Golf Club, on Friday, April 22 at 8 a.m. (Central).
