DALLAS -- University of Texas seniors Lisa Ferrero (Lodi, Calif.) and Perry Swenson (Charlotte, N.C.) and sophomore Julia Best (Bulverde, Texas) have earned second-team Academic All-Big 12 honors, the conference announced on Tuesday, April 19. Nominated by each institution's director of student-athlete support services and media relations offices, the women's golf academic all-league squad consisted of 31 first team members combined with six on the second team.

First team members include those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA, and the second team are those who have a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA. To qualify, student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 60 percent of her team's scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence.

Ferrero, a kinesiology major, has played in eight tournaments during the 2004-05 season. She currently has the best scoring average on the team at 74.9 and has a top finish of sixth place at the Franklin Street Partners Invitational in October.

Swenson, a finance major, tied for eighth place at the Mason Rudolph Championship in October and has appeared in seven tournaments this season. Her scoring average of 75.9 is third amongst Texas' active players.

Best is an elementary education major, who has played in six tournaments, which is two more than she played in during her freshman season. Her scoring average has dropped by four strokes over that time, from 82.4 to 78.4.

These three, along with the rest of the Longhorns, will participate in the 2005 Big 12 Conference Women's Golf Championship scheduled for April 22-24 at the University of Texas Golf Club in Austin, Texas.
