Women's Golf signs Strauss to National Letter of Intent
April 18, 2011
AUSTIN, Texas -- University of Texas Women’s Golf head coach Martha Richards announced Monday the signing of South African prep standout Bertine Strauss (Koster, South Africa) to a National Letter of Intent. Strauss will join the Longhorns in the fall of 2011. “Bertine is a flat-out competitor,” Richards said. “She knows how to win and she’s won a lot. We’re excited to have Bertine join the Longhorn family. She’s a great young lady that will enhance our team in many ways, not just with her game.” Strauss is currently ranked No. 9 among all South African Women Golfers and previously held the top ranking among all junior golfers in her country. A three-time South African Junior Champion and the 2010 Gauteng North Junior Championship runner-up, Strauss was also the medalist at the Nomads South African Girls’ Championship (2009), WGSA Stroke Play Championship, Gauteng Stroke Play Championship, Western Province Match Play Championship and Eastern Cape Match Play Championship. A member of the South African National Team for the North West Province, Strauss recently finished second in the stroke play portion of the Sanlam South African Women’s Amateur Golf Championship before falling in the semifinals of the match play event on April 14, 2011. She was also chosen to represent her country in The Astor Trophy this summer, a round robin event held every four years between Australia, Canada, Great Britain and Ireland, New Zealand and South Africa.
