Fish, Hoy lead Women's Golf in round one at 2007 Big 12 Championship
WACO, Texas -- University of Texas freshmen Shannon Fish and Arliss Hoy overcame breezy conditions Monday afternoon as each stroked a six-over 78 to lead the Longhorns in round one of the 2007 Big 12 Women's Golf Championship at the par 72, 6,142-yard Ridgewood Country Club. Texas sits in 11th place after shooting a 32-over 320 in the first of three rounds. Texas A&M leads the event at 12-over par, and Kansas' Amanda Costner leads individually at one-under par. Hoy (San Antonio, Texas) started at the 10th hole and sank a couple of birdies on the back nine before finishing at six-over par on the day to end round one in a tie for 22nd place. She was joined in a tie for 22nd place by Fish (Spring, Texas), who did not drop any birdies but produced a steady round to finish at six-over par on the day. "Arliss and Shannon did a great job today," said UT coach Susan Watkins. "They were very composed and were in charge of their own destiny today. They handled themselves well and went out with a game plan and stuck to it. We're not satisfied, and we won't be until we get a good job done this week." Competing in her final Big 12 Championship event, senior Ashley Prust (Englewood, Colo.) stroked one birdie and finished round one with an eight-over 80 to end the day in a tie for 37th place. Junior Kelley Louth (Victoria, Texas) and sophomore Kristin Walla (Aspen, Colo.) collectively chipped in four birdies, as each finished with a 12-over 84 to end round one in a tie for 55th place. Texas tees off the second round on Tuesday at 9 a.m. Central.
