Women's Golf preview: Big 12 Championship
WHAT: Texas will compete for its third Big 12 team title this week when it competes at the Big 12 Women's Golf Championship. WHERE: Ridgewood Country Club - Waco, Texas; par 72, 6,142 yards WHEN: The 12 conference teams will play 18 holes Monday-Wednesday, April 16-18; tee times begin at 9 a.m. Central on Monday and Tuesday and at 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday. WHO: The tournament features all 12 Big 12 Conference schools (Texas, Baylor, Texas Tech, Texas A&M, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Colorado, Kansas, Kansas State, Nebraska, Missouri, Iowa State). TEXAS STARTERS: UT coach Susan Watkins will start senior Ashley Prust (Englewood, Colo.), sophomore Kristin Walla (Aspen, Colo.), junior Kelley Louth (Victoria, Texas) and freshmen Shannon Fish (Spring, Texas) and Arliss Hoy (San Antonio, Texas). LAST TIME OUT: Texas tied for seventh at 41-over par in the Indiana Invitational at the Crooked Stick Golf Club in Indianapolis, Ind. Walla led the Longhorns by tying for 16th place at nine-over par. LAST TIME AT THE BIG 12 CHAMPIONSHIPS: Texas placed seventh at 69-over par at the 2006 Big 12 Championship at the Country Club of Lincoln in Lincoln, Neb. Julia Best led the Longhorns by placing eighth at 12-over par. TEXAS' BIG 12 TOURNAMENT HISTORY: Texas captured the first Big 12 Conference team championship in 1997 by shooting 60-over par at the Alvomar Golf and Country Club in Lawrence, Kan. The Longhorns' Heather Bowie claimed medalist honors at four-under par. Texas took its second Big 12 Conference crown in 2004 when it shot 16-over par at the Pebble Creek Country Club in College Station. Janice Olivencia placed second for the Longhorns at the 2004 event.
