April 13, 2009

Hey Longhorn fans! I hope everyone had a wonderful Easter weekend. The sun was shining and gave us a reminder of why Texas is so beautiful in the spring. It was a stark contrast to the weather we just saw in Indiana. Pretty much the exact polar opposite: temperatures in the 30s, windy, cloudy, and precipitating a "wintry mix" as our coach likes to call it. In other words, we saw rain, sleet, snow, and hail--all in one day. Alas, I'm not complaining though. Any day on the golf course like this makes you even more thankful for the beautiful days, like Sunday, and tests your mental fortitude.

Our regular season is now officially over--my last regular season ever. It's both exciting and unbelievable. I know the phrase "time flies" is a cliché, but it doesn't even begin to describe how this season has gone. Some days it feels like I'm holding onto a fistful of sand and every time I look down at my hands, more and more of it is slipping away.

Golf is a game of self-discovery, and I've been doing a lot of inner reflection lately--a rather annoying side affect of having been asked the, "So, what are you going to do?" question a mere 300 times. I still don't have a real answer other than to say, "I'm going to keep breathing" or using one of my favorite fake answers, "Move to London, work in a pub." (The shock factor is wearing off on that one, though.)

As far as golf goes, the team and I are gearing up for a hopefully exciting post-season. It all starts with Big 12 Championships beginning April 24th in Lubbock. We now have a mere week and a half to prepare. Hopefully, we'll see as much wind as possible, as it is sure to be a factor. Being a non-Texas native, I don't claim to be an expert on every city in this great state, but I don't think I've ever heard Lubbock used in a sentence that didn't include "wind."

So, wish us luck as we set out to show this conference our best golf, and hopefully, come away with some hardware. We're sure to come up against some stiff competition from 4th ranked Oklahoma State and Texas A&M, ranked close behind us.

After Big 12's, we will be gearing up for NCAAs. Last year we had the honor and privilege of hosting Central Regionals, but this year we could end up in any region, this year they will be played in Arizona, Ohio, or Florida. If we go to Florida, it will mark our third trip to the sunny state in one semester! [I'll pause for your envy to really sink in]. The regional bids will be announced on April 27th. As always, be sure to follow us on golfstat.com while we compete.
