NORMAN, Okla. -- Junior Julia Best (Bulverde, Texas) paced The University of Texas women's golf team to a tie for second place after two rounds of the Susie Maxwell Berning Classic at the Jimmie Austin University of Oklahoma Golf Course in Norman, Okla. on Sunday.
Best shot rounds of two-over par 73 in her first 18 and three-over par 75 in her second 18 to sit in a tie for 15th-place on Sunday. Best and sophomores Brittany Givilancz (Weslaco, Texas) and Kelley Louth (Victoria, Texas) all shot opening rounds of 73 to help put the Longhorns in contention.
Texas totaled a first round score of six-over par 294 and a second 14-over par 302 to tie with SMU with a score of 596 on the first day of competition. Oklahoma State is in first-place with a nine-under par score of 567. Nebraska is fourth in the Big 12 heavy tournament with a 21-over par 597 and Kansas State finished with a 27-over par 603 to round out the top-five.
Givilancz finished the first day with a second round score of four-over par 76 after a season low round of 73 in her opening 18 holes. Givilancz is currently tied for 18th-place (73+76=149, +5) while Louth shot a second round 77 to post a six-over par performance of 150 and tie for 21st.
Senior Devan Andersen (Guadalajara, Mexico) finished tied for 28th after posting rounds of three-over par 75 and four-over par 76 for a two round total of 151. Freshman Caney Hines (San Antonio, Texas) was the fifth player for UT and is tied for 37th with a nine-over par score of 153 (78+75).
Texas will be back on the course tomorrow morning for the final round of the Susie Maxwell Berning for a shot gun start at 8 a.m.
