Women's Golf preview: Susie Maxwell Berning Classic
Site: Norman, Oklahoma Last Year: The University of Texas women's golf team did not play in the 2005 Susie Maxwell Berning Classic. Last Time Out: Three Texas players tied for 32nd-place and The University of Texas finished tied for 13th after the final round of the PING/ASU Invitational in Tempe, Ariz. on at the ASU Karsten Golf Course. Senior Devan Andersen (Guadalajara, Mexico), junior Julie Best (Bulverde, Texas) and freshman Caney Hines (San Antonio, Texas) all tied for 32nd after posting total scores of 11-over par 227. Andersen shot rounds of five-over par 77, even-par 72 and a final round six-over par after three days. Best (75+75+77) finished with a final round five-over par 77 to close out the tournament and Hines (68+81+78), playing as an individual, carded a six-over par 78 on the last day. The Longhorns (305+305+315) finished in a tie for 13th-place with Washington State with 61-over par scores of 925. UCLA won the tournament with a score of one-over par 865 after three rounds (288+289+288), host Arizona State was second with an two-over par total of 866 (283+298+285) and Texas A&M took third-place with a 14-over par 878 after recording scores of 294, 293 and 291. Sophomore Kelly Louth (Victoria, Texas) tied for 56th-place after carding a final round score of seven-over par 79 on the final day. She opened the tournament with a five-over par 77 and then added a six-over par 78 on the second day of competition. Rounding out the Texas varsity starting five was sophomore Brittany Givilancz (Weslaco, Texas) who finished in a tie for 68th-place (76+80+81=237, +21) and sophomore Ashley Prust (Englewood, Colo.) was in 88th-place (79+84+84=247, +31) after the final round. Also playing in the tournament as an individual for Texas was senior Lauran Driver (Houston, Texas). In her second varsity tournament of the year, Driver put together three rounds of 10-over par 82 to tie for 83rd-place with a 30-over par total score of 246.
