Women's Golf finishes 10th at PING/ASU Invitational

TEMPE, Ariz. -- The Texas women's golf team had its best round of the tournament, a seven-over-par 295, on the final day of the PING/ASU Invitational (Karsten Golf Course: Par 72, 6,230 yards) and finished in 10th place with a 41-over-par 905. The Longhorns ended up 35 shots behind Arizona State and UCLA. The Sun Devils took the tournament victory by virtue of a tiebreaker, the fifth player's score. UT was led by senior Mariana Salazar (Torreon, Mexico) and freshman Kelley Louth (Victoria, Texas), who tied for 28th place at nine-over-par. Arizona State's Louise Stahle earned medalist honors with a seven-under-par 209.

Salazar shot her third-consecutive 75 during the final round, while Louth posted her second-consecutive 74 on Sunday. The two Longhorns tied for 28th place with four others.

Senior Lisa Ferrero (Lodi, Calif.) carded a one-over-par 73 during the final round and finished in a tie for 41st place at 11-over-par. Sophomore Julia Best (Bulverde, Texas) also had her best round of the tournament on the final day, a two-over-par 74, and tied for 46th place at 13-over-par.

Freshman Brittany Givilancz (Weslaco, Texas) improved by eight strokes from the second round to the third round with a two-over-par 74 and ended up tied for 73rd at 20-over-par. Sophomore Ashley Prust (Englewood, Colo.), playing as an individual, finished in 91st place at 31-over-par.
